An immigrant from Uzbekistan suspected of being affiliated with a terrorist organization was apprehended by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) while working as a commercial truck driver with a Pennsylvania license, according to officials.
Akhror Bozorov, 31, was detained after being wanted in his native nation of Uzbekistan for belonging to a terrorist organization, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on Monday.
In 2022, authorities reportedly filed an arrest warrant for Bozorov for allegedly spreading terrorist propaganda, calling for jihad, and recruiting people to join the movement. “Jihad” means “struggle” in Arabic and refers to a movement in which followers combat Islam’s opponents.
ICE authorities apprehended Bozorov on November 9 when he was working as a commercial truck driver in Kansas. He was discovered with a Pennsylvania commercial driver’s license (CDL) bearing a Philadelphia address. According to House Republicans, the license indicated REAL ID.
According to DHS, he was granted work authorization in January 2024 after entering the United States unlawfully in February 2023. Following that, he was reportedly apprehended by the US Border Patrol and then released.
“Not only was Akhror Bozorov—a wanted terrorist—RELEASED into the country by the Biden administration, but he was he was also given a commercial driver’s license by Governor Shapiro’s Pennsylvania. This should go without saying, but terrorist illegal aliens should not be operating 18-wheelers on America’s highways,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “Biden and Mayorkas allowed countless terrorists to come into our country. President Trump and Secretary Noem unleashed ICE to target these national security threats.”
Republican House leaders have called for an investigation of the Pennsylvania driver’s license, REAL ID, and voter registration systems to “find out how the incident happened and prevent a reoccurrence.”
Illegal immigrants with alleged ties to terrorism should not be getting a Pennsylvania driver’s license in any form, obtaining a REAL ID, or having the opportunity to vote as part of automatic voter registration. Pennsylvanians are rightly demanding answers as to how this happened and what is being done to stop this from happening in the future, and those answers are best obtained by the Attorney General and Auditor General using the powers of their offices to hold the Shapiro administration accountable.
The fact that this person was allowed to obtain a REAL ID is even more egregious. Not only are Pennsylvanians, U.S. citizens and those here legally, facing significant hurdles in obtaining a REAL ID, but the possession of a REAL ID by an illegal immigrant raises serious national security questions since it allows people to gain access to air travel, military installations, and other federal buildings. Pennsylvanians need real answers, and the Shapiro administration needs to be accountable for this serious lapse in judgement and security.
House Republicans sent a letter to Attorney General Dave Sunday and Auditor General Tim DeFoor, requesting that they collaborate with other agencies, including PennDOT and the Department of State, to further investigate how Bozorov obtained the CDL.
Bozorov is still being held in jail.
