The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a level 1 of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms in Central Alabama from early Tuesday morning until Tuesday night.
Forecasters predict many rounds of storms could form in northwest Alabama as early as sunrise and progress southeast throughout the day. The major dangers are destructive gusts of up to 60 mph, isolated short tornadoes, and hail up to the size of quarters.
Storms could last until Tuesday evening, particularly along the I-85 corridor, as a cold front slowly travels southeast across the region.
Residents are encouraged to keep weather-aware, have various ways to receive information, and plan a safe location in case warnings are issued.
