An 18-year-old man is facing human smuggling and fleeing arrest charges after leading Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers on a 40-mile chase along Interstate 35.
Angel Gabriel Rodriguez was arrested after the pursuit, which began around mile marker 32 and ended at mile marker 86, according to DPS.
According to Sgt. Erik Estrada, two undocumented migrants were in Rodriguez’s SUV throughout the chase.
“Obviously this person was driving in a reckless manner, so our priority was to stop him as soon as possible,” Estrada informed the crowd. “Fortunately, he was able to come to a stop and turn himself in.”
Rodriguez is charged with evading arrest and human smuggling in this instance. The other two people were turned over to the US Border Patrol.
The probe is still ongoing.
