Up To 3 Inches Of Snow Forecast For Southeast Kentucky Overnight

The National Weather Service has issued multiple winter weather alerts for southern and southeastern Kentucky from Thursday night to Friday morning, warning of accumulating snow and slick roads by daybreak.

The NWS Louisville office predicts up to 1 inch of snow over the Lake Cumberland region, with lower accumulations likely farther north along the Western and Bluegrass Parkways. Snow is predicted to fall late Thursday and persist overnight, potentially causing slippery travel on Friday morning.

Meanwhile, the NWS Jackson office has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for southeastern Kentucky, with 1 to 3 inches of snow predicted until 10 a.m. Friday. The highest elevations in Pike, Letcher, and Harlan counties are expected to receive the most snow.

Forecasters warn that even light snowfall could create hazardous driving conditions, particularly in shaded or high regions. During the Friday morning commute, motorists are encouraged to slow down and allow additional time for travel.

Snowfall is forecast to subside by mid-morning Friday, but temperatures will stay cold enough for icy spots to last until lunchtime in some regions.

Residents are recommended to follow updates from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and local governments for the most up-to-date information on road conditions and any delays.
