A citizen of Honduras was sentenced to federal prison after being discovered in Pennsylvania after three previous deportations from the United States.
Troy Rivetti, the First Assistant United States Attorney, announced the sentencing of Jose Mejia-Sarmiento, 67. The Honduran was sentenced to 39 months in federal prison before being deported for unauthorized reentry by a removed alien and fraudulent use of a Social Security number.
Mejia-Sarmiento was recently discovered in western Pennsylvania, despite being deported from the United States three times between 1996 and 2016, according to court documents.
Mejia-Sarmiento also made false statements to the Social Security Administration at least four times in 2024 and 2025 while using another person’s ID, according to Rivetti.
After finishing his 39-month sentence, Mejia-Sarmiento will be deported again.
