27-time Convicted Burglar Sentenced To 9 Years In Prison For Latest Break-in Spree

A 23-time convicted burglar has added four additional cases to his record after pleading guilty to a new series of North Side break-ins while on parole earlier this year. The plea brings 58-year-old Lamont Gordon’s burglary conviction total to 27.

Gordon received a nine-year sentence for the most recent break-ins after entering a plea before Judge Ursula Walowski. According to records, he will be eligible for release in July 2029, having served half of his time.

Chicago police released two community alerts in January 2025 regarding a burglary pattern involving multiple North Side shops. The warnings included surveillance images and video of the offender. A Chicago police officer eventually recognized him from the footage.

At 2:30 a.m., patrol police saw Gordon strolling in the 2700 block of West Devon Avenue with a screwdriver and a flashlight. Although Gordon initially denied any involvement in the crimes, authorities assert that he confessed upon seeing security evidence.

Prosecutors charged him with burglarizing River and Road Cafe at 1259 West Devon on January 11, Vee-Vee’s African Restaurant at 6232 North Broadway on January 9, Falafel Kebab Station at 1133 West Granville on January 3, and Nohadra Grocery at 2959 West Devon on January 11. In each case, they claimed he stole cash from registers and offices.

Gordon was most recently released from jail in July 2024, having served less than three years of a seven-year sentence for burglarizing North Side businesses in 2021. He was also on parole for burglary at the time he committed these acts.

His past includes a long record of burglary convictions that span over four decades:

  • three concurrent 7-year sentences for burglary in 2021
  • nine concurrent 14-year sentences for burglary in 2013
  • two concurrent 7-year sentences for burglary in 2007
  • 14 years for armed home invasion in 2000
  • 8 years for burglary in 1996
  • 8 years for burglary in 1992
  • 4 years for burglary in 1990
  • five concurrent 5-year burglary sentences in 1988
