Man Accused Of Kidnapping And Beating Woman Overnight In East Columbus

A Columbus man was in court Wednesday after being accused of beating a woman over nine hours in east Columbus.

According to a police report from Columbus, officers were dispatched to an outpatient care center on Leonard Avenue following calls about a domestic violence incident. Officers spoke with the victim, who stated that 41-year-old Terron Tolber abused her in various ways on the night of December 15 and the following morning.

The woman told police that at 7 p.m. Monday, the two began arguing, and Tolber assaulted her in a Mt. Vernon home east of Downtown Columbus.

The woman said that Tolber abused her in various ways, including choking her, repeatedly striking her with a hammer, and holding a knife to her neck while threatening to “kill her, put her in the trunk of the car, and bury her.”

The woman told authorities that the hammer struck her, knocking her unconscious, and she awoke bleeding from her head. Detectives discovered multiple injuries on the victim’s wrists, arms, and legs and believe the torture lasted nine or ten hours until Tolber supposedly fell asleep. She was taken from the outpatient care unit and hospitalized in stable condition.

Tolber was arrested on Tuesday and appeared in Franklin County Municipal Court the next day. Tolber was charged with kidnapping, intimidating, and threatening serious damage. A judge set a preliminary hearing for Dec. 23.
