A St. Petersburg man is in custody after troopers say he fled the scene of a crash that killed a pedestrian on Gandy Boulevard Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, John Delucchi, 51, was driving a Ford sedan westbound on Gandy Boulevard just before 5 p.m. when a 66-year-old man attempted to cross the roadway in front of oncoming traffic around 10387 Gandy Boulevard North.
According to troopers, the sedan hit the man, and Delucchi fled the area following the crash.
The victim was brought to a nearby hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
Troopers discovered Delucchi in Plant City and arrested him on a charge of fleeing the scene of a pedestrian fatality.
