3 Children Taken Into Custody After Stealing Vehicle And Leading Police On Chase In Ohio

Three children were arrested after allegedly stealing a car, leading police on a short pursuit, and crashing into a home in Newburgh Heights, according to authorities.

Police claimed they began pursuing the vehicle on Harvard Avenue as it crossed the Denison Bridge. The chase ended shortly after when the car smashed into a Newburgh Heights home, inflicting minimal damage, according to police.

Officers stated three children inside the vehicle, ages 8, 11, and 12, fled the scene after the incident but were immediately apprehended. Police said the 8-year-old and 11-year-old are brothers, and the 11-year-old was driving at the time of the pursuit. Police said the vehicle had been reported stolen from Parma.

Investigators said the children informed officers they learned how to steal cars by watching YouTube videos. There were no injuries reported as a result of the collision or pursuit.

According to police, the children were released to their parents. Charges are expected to be filed in the juvenile court.
