A wave of daring burglaries has plagued the Doral area, and investigators say they have a suspect in custody. Lawrence Trevonne Young, a 27-year-old Georgia man, is accused of a series of thefts that have residents of the Doral Landing East community on edge. Local 10 reported that police responded to several occupied house and car burglaries last Thursday, including one in which a vehicle was stolen.
According to authorities, Young committed these crimes with brazenness, breaking into six automobiles and at least one residence. He allegedly used garage openers located in unlocked vehicles to gain entrance to the homes. According to NBC Miami, doorbell cameras captured images of the culprit targeting the automobiles. In one case, Young is accused of taking a 2023 Kia Sportage to make his escape.
According to arrest paperwork acquired by Local 10, Young stole a television, a computer, and several credit cards after entering a residence through the garage. Surveillance data also linked him to a number of fraudulent charges made using stolen credit cards totaling more than $1,000.
The surveillance operation paid off when traffic cameras assisted investigators in locating the suspect and the stolen vehicle, which was discovered in a hotel parking lot. An additional camera from the hotel showed Young at the location, unloading the stolen stuff and then getting into an Uber. After the ride-share was halted, the Uber driver led police to Young’s location, where he was caught with five victims’ credit cards in his possession.
Local authorities have charged Young with a slew of crimes, including burglary of an occupied residence, grand theft, burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, fraudulent possession of personal identification, and fraudulent use of a credit card. According to the most recent information, Young remains at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with a bond of $80,500, as confirmed by Local 10.
