2 arrested after multi-county police chase in Ohio

A vehicle pursuit on Interstate 80 that began Saturday afternoon resulted in two arrests and minor injuries to a state trooper, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers with the OSHP Hiram Post stated the pursuit began around 12:15 p.m. on the Ohio Turnpike in Streetsboro Township, when troopers attempted to stop a gray Ford F-150 believed to be stolen near the Streetsboro milepost. The driver failed to halt, sending troopers on a multi-county pursuit.

According to the patrol report, troopers used stop sticks three times throughout the pursuit, deflating the truck’s front left tire. Despite the damage, the truck continued to flee until the rim broke. The suspect left at Exit 218 for Niles-Youngstown and continued east on Interstate 80.

The pursuit concluded in Hubbard Township around milepost 235 when the suspect purposely hit a Highway Patrol cruiser. The trooper involved was driven off the road and received minor injuries. He was treated on the scene. The driver of the Ford F-150 sustained minor injuries and received on-site treatment prior to his arrest. A passenger in the car was also arrested.

Both suspects were taken to the Portage County Jail, where they face several felony counts. Their identities were not revealed. The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the event.
