A DeSoto County woman is accused of defrauding the Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS) of more than $20,000 through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
According to the Mississippi Department of Human Services, Sharita Maria Jones was arrested after a SNAP fraud investigation was conducted.
Jones is one of four DeSoto County individuals indicted by a grand jury for allegedly defrauding the State of Mississippi out of more than $96,993.40 in public assistance funds through the SNAP and other welfare programs.
According to the department, Jones received $20,028 in SNAP benefits because she incorrectly reported her household income and composition.
MDHS stated that the case was referred to the DeSoto County District Attorney’s Office, which obtained an indictment.
According to the department, Jones was apprehended by DeSoto County officials on December 10.
