U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed a detainer on a Guatemalan apprehended for driving without a license in Sumter County.
Mateo Zavala Mejia, 28, of Bradenton, was driving a white Nissan passenger car in Bushnell around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday when a deputy checked the vehicle’s license plate and discovered the registered owner did not have a valid driver’s license, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

During a traffic stop, Zavala Mejia was discovered to be driving without a valid driver’s license, and the Guatemalan native had been convicted of driving without a license in Marion County back in 2022. He was arrested and booked into the Sumter County Detention Center, where ICE put a detainer on him.
