Two suspects have been arrested on accusations of using counterfeit bills.
On Friday, Jan. 9, the Glendale Police Department shared a statement on their website regarding two women in their twenties allegedly at the center of a currency scheme. The target of the supposed crime? In-N-Out Burger.
Auriona Lewis, 24, and Tatiyanna Foster, 26, have been detained following a months-long investigation, according to the report.
On October 21, an In-N-Out restaurant in Glendale, California, reported an incident that police determined was connected to other reports at In-N-Out locations in California, notably Los Angeles and Orange Counties. According to the investigation, suspects “victimized” approximately a dozen In-N-Out restaurants by utilizing counterfeit bills, resulting in financial losses and operational difficulties for the businesses.
After looking through video footage and obtaining search warrants, police linked Lewis and Foster to many incidents. Lewis was detained on October 30 for allegedly possessing counterfeit bills that matched those used in one of the cases, as well as gift cards and transaction receipts that could be linked to other fraudulent conduct. Foster was detained on December 15.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has charged Lewis with criminal counterfeiting and grand theft. Foster’s accusations are awaiting a court appearance later this month.
The report on the Glendale Police Department’s website contains photographs of receipts from September 29 showing a burger ($5.50) and French fries ($2.35) ordered with a $100 bill.
