A man has been taken into custody in Pennsylvania after reportedly attempting to buy a 6-year-old girl from her mother for $5,000 after babysat the young victim.
According to CBS News, Allegheny Township police stated the incident occurred after Theodore Magee was requested to monitor the girl overnight at his home in March 2025. The Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office corroborated this.
When the victim arrived home from being babysat by Magee, she told police that Magee, 44, had inappropriately touched her while they were both lying on the same air mattress. Investigators then stated that Magee texted the girl’s mother, offering to buy her for $5,000.
While speaking with detectives, Magee stated that he merely embraced the girl and did not touch her inappropriately. Police also said that Magee provided officers text messages and videos in which he referred to the minor victim as his girlfriend.
A search warrant was executed, and investigators were able to check through Magee’s phone, which contained images and videos of the girl. Additionally, authorities discovered a correspondence in which he offered to buy the young child.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim’s mother described Magee as a family friend. Magee was arrested and taken into custody at Westmoreland County Prison, according to online records viewed by Us Weekly. He remains in custody after he was denied bail.
While the circumstances of his arrest are available online, Magee’s mug shot had not yet been released at the time of publication.
Following his arrest, he was charged with aggravated indecent assault, attempted aggravated indecent assault, endangering children’s welfare, minor corruption, indecent assault on a victim under the age of 13, trafficking, and interference with child custody.
It is unclear whether Magee has retained legal representation or entered a plea. The Allegheny Township Police Department did not immediately return Us Weekly’s request for comment.
Magee is expected to appear for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Cheryl J. Peck-Yakopec on Monday, January 20, according to Trib Live.
Magee is no stranger to legal issues, having already been arrested on assault and harassment charges in a different case filed in 2025, according to WPXI. The outcome of that case is not yet known.
“It’s disturbing, to say the least,” Chief Daniel Uncapher told WPXI. “These investigations are never easy.”
Uncapher further stated that the inquiry began when Magee contacted police himself to report an alleged incident involving the 6-year-old and another child. However, detectives immediately concluded that there was more to Magee’s account than he initially told authorities.
“Through the investigation, we identified the actor or the defendant in this case. The investigation proceeded at that point in time and resulted in a set of criminal charges being filed,” Uncapher further explained.
The investigation into the case is still ongoing as authorities attempt to determine Magee’s exact crimes.
