Burglar, Shot By Homeowner When Breaking Into Valley Village Home, Receives Prison Sentence

Two men were sentenced to over a decade in prison for attempting to burglarize a Valley Village home in 2024, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office told NBC4 Investigates on Thursday.

On July 8, 2024, the men broke into the Addison Street home near Colfax Avenue when the homeowner was inside. The property owner fired his weapon, injuring one of the burglars, Chuks Chukwudi.

On January 12, Chukwudi received a 12-year sentence in state prison after entering a plea of no contest to a single charge of first-degree residential burglary with a person present. Chukwudi also formally admitted a prior conviction, according to the DA’s office.

According to the DA’s office, co-conspirator Marquinn Peterson was sentenced to 14 years and eight months in prison for two charges of first-degree residential burglary after admitting to priors.

When cops arrived at the burglary site in 2024, Chukwudi was still awake and breathing, while Peterson fled.
