A driver with an expired Pennsylvania license plate was apprehended with drugs on an Interstate 75 ramp in Sumter County.
Dean John Sylvester, 20, of Tampa, was driving a tan 2007 Toyota Tundra at 10:43 a.m. Tuesday at the I-75 onramp at County Road 470 in Lake Panasoffkee when a deputy noted the tag was expired, according to a Sumter County Sheriff’s Office arrest report. During a traffic stop, Sylvester admitted that his Pennsylvania driver’s license was suspended due to a drunk driving conviction in Pennsylvania. The deputy confirmed the 2025 conviction for driving under the influence.
A K-9 alerted to the vehicle, suggesting the presence of drugs. A search of the vehicle revealed medications identified as Adderall and anti-migraine medication. Sylvester did not have a prescription for the drug.
The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native was arrested on felony counts of drug possession and driving while license suspended. He had previously been convicted of driving with his license suspended. He was booked into the Sumter County Detention Center and released after paying a $13,000 bond.
