According to the Galveston Island Beach Patrol, a teenage boy from Houston died, and a teenage girl was hospitalized after going missing while swimming at Galveston beach early Tuesday morning.
The event occurred at 2:52 a.m. on 4300 Seawall Blvd., near the jetty.
Patrol officers responded to allegations that two swimmers, an 18-year-old lady and a 17-year-old man, had gone missing in the water.
When Galveston police arrived on the scene, they discovered the teen girl on the east side of the jetty, carried her to land, and began CPR.
The 17-year-old man was discovered 15 minutes later on the east side of Tower 43.
The Galveston Island Beach Patrol supervisor on the scene entered the ocean and retrieved the victim, assisted by Galveston police. When the male victim arrived back on shore, CPR was immediately performed.
Both were then sent to the UTMB ER.
The male victim was pronounced dead at 3:56 a.m. at UTMB ER. As of this writing, the female victim is still in the UTMB ER.
