An Indianapolis woman is facing preliminary charges of attempted murder and child molestation after allegedly attempting to smother a 1-year-old girl.
The attack happened late in the evening on Sunday, January 18, on Baltimore Avenue on Indianapolis’ northeast side.

According to court records, the woman had just completed watching a movie with the child’s mother when she began asking “strange questions.” She got up and heard the door to the child’s room open.
When the mother returned, she reported seeing the suspect sitting on the 1-year-old’s face while the baby “screamed bloody murder.”
When the mother entered, the suspect stated, “I thought this was what you wanted me to do.
“The suspect allegedly said, “This is what I’m supposed to do,” and assured the mother she “could have a better life.”
The mother fought the other woman, successfully removing her from the child and detaining her until the cops arrived.
According to police, when they interviewed the woman, she allegedly stated that she was attempting to suffocate the infant so that the child’s mother would kill her in retaliation.
The suspect allegedly stated that she had sexual intentions when she attacked the child and that it would “get them money,” but she refused to describe how.
Another child in the house allegedly reported that the guy had molested her. The suspect admitted she had threatened to “sacrifice” the child following that incident.
The Marion County Adult Detention Center is currently holding the suspect on preliminary allegations of child abuse and attempted murder. A preliminary hearing has been planned on Wednesday morning, January 21.
The Marion County prosecutor will make a formal charging decision.
