A 29-year-old Milwaukee man has been charged with homicide after a woman was discovered fatally shot in a motel room near Timmerman Airport.
The shooting happened on Wednesday, January 14. Shortly after 2:30 p.m., officers arrived to the Port Motel on W. Appleton Avenue and discovered 29-year-old Alicia Machnik inside one of the motel units with a gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
According to the complaint, investigators studied motel surveillance video, which appears to show Machnik and a male checking in on January 12.
On January 14, surveillance footage showed one person leaving the room, later identified as 29-year-old Lance White, with no other people entering or exiting until Machnik was discovered dead a few hours later by a motel employee.
Authorities contacted Machnik’s mother, who stated that Machnik and White married one year previously and have “spiraled out of control ever since.” Machnik’s mother reportedly studied surveillance video from the motel and identified the guy who arrived with Machnik and exited the room as White.
White was arrested the day after the incident. According to the complaint, during an interview, White informed detectives that he and Machnik had been in a relationship for approximately a year and slept in hotels, the most recent of which was the Port.
According to the lawsuit, White claimed that the father of Machnik’s child would be released from jail in 11 months and planned to kill them. Machnik reportedly instructed White to shoot her where his name is tattooed on her face.
According to the complaint, White informed detectives that he shot Machnik once in the head and then “fled the room in shock.” He allegedly disposed of the rifle in a nearby sewer.
White is charged with one count of first-degree intentional homicide.
His initial court appearance is scheduled for January 20.
