Police in Washington, D.C., are searching for a psychiatric patient who escaped from a treatment facility on Monday evening.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the Psychiatric Institute of Washington (PIW) informed officers at 6:38 p.m. that Kevin Gudiel, 25, had fled from the facility.
Gudiel, from Falls Church, Virginia, was being treated at PIW at the time of his escape.
Police say Gudiel was arrested earlier this month in connection with a crime in Northwest DC.
Officers arrested him on January 13 after a robbery was reported in the 700 block of 9th Street, Northwest. Gudiel was accused of approaching a woman and stealing her phone. MPD police swiftly discovered Gudiel and retrieved the victim’s phone.
Following his arrest, officials sent Gudiel to the facility for treatment.
Authorities stated anyone who knows Gudiel’s whereabouts should contact MPD at 202-727-9099 or text a tip to 50411.
