Villager who escaped prosecution in attack on husband apprehended again

A villager who escaped prosecution for an assault on her husband last year has been detained again.

Delores Kelley Dennis, 76, of Virginia Trace, was held without bond after being arrested on felony charges of aggravated battery, battery, and resisting arrest.

According to an arrest record from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived to Dennis and her husband’s home Saturday afternoon following a 911 hangup call.

Dennis’ husband approached the door, but Dennis lunged at him while he was conversing with the deputy. The deputy had to separate Dennis from her husband.

The officer attempted to handcuff Dennis, but the Georgia native punched the deputy on the forearm. She continued to pull away, but the deputy was able to handcuff her and place her in the back of the squad car.

Dennis was arrested in August after allegedly hitting her husband with an umbrella. However, the prosecutor’s office decided not to proceed with the case. Dennis informed deputies during the first arrest that her spouse was a “bastard.”
