2 People Found Dead After House Explosion In Chicago Suburb

Two people were discovered dead after a house explosion Thursday evening in Chicago’s southwest suburbs.

At 5:02 p.m., the Oswego Fire Protection District responded to the 200 block of Fox Chase Drive North for a reported house explosion with individuals possibly trapped inside.

Four minutes later, crews arrived and discovered a two-story, wood-frame home that had collapsed and caught fire. They immediately worked to extinguish the flames and began searching.

Even after extinguishing the majority of the fire, officials reported that a natural gas line continued to burn. NICOR reacted and turned off the gas supply, allowing staff to work safely.

Following a thorough investigation of the rubble, two people were discovered dead.

According to the Kendall County Coroner’s Office, the victims are presumed to be James Fitzmaurice Sr., 64, and Virgie Fitzmaurice, 62, both of Oswego.

The coroner stated that due to their condition, positive identification, as well as the cause and manner of death, are still undergoing additional investigation.

Multiple authorities assisted on the site, and the inquiry is ongoing. Officials added that more information will be shared as it becomes available.
