31 men taken into custody in January human trafficking operations in Cook County: officials

Investigators arrested 31 male suspects in January in connection with human trafficking, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

In a Facebook post, officials revealed that Cook County Sheriff’s Police Special Victims Unit investigators conducted three undercover operations in January related to human trafficking.

The operations led to the arrest of 31 men, a $1,000 fine, and the towing of their cars.

Officials say the special victim’s team works year-round to locate human traffickers, even as they held the operations in recognition of Human Trafficking Awareness Month.

According to the office, since 2022, the department has detained and penalized over 600 persons for human trafficking and sex trafficking.
