Dallas County Judge Sentences 13-Year-Old to Maximum 40 Years in prison in Capital Murder Case

A Dallas County juvenile court judge delivered a true finding and imposed the maximum allowable sentence of 40 years in prison in a capital murder case involving a 13-year-old defendant.

The case stemmed from a number of violent offenses committed by the juvenile previous to the capital murder, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated robbery in separate places. After three days of testimony, the judge found the allegations to be true and entered a guilty adjudication.

The case was led by prosecutors Corinne Wise and Rex Anderson, with support from District Attorney investigators Harold Martin and Howard Lampkin, paralegal Ashleigh Cisneros, and victim advocate Viviana Monroy. The Dallas Police Department performed the investigation.

Under Texas law, 40 years is the maximum sentence that can be imposed on a juvenile offender. Court officials stated that the verdict shows rigorous case presentation and a commitment to justice in a particularly complicated and sensitive juvenile capital murder case.
