Mississippi deputies seize $2.2 million worth of cocaine

Two Florida men were taken into custody in Mississippi after deputies say they found cocaine in their vehicle.

On January 30, 2026, a deputy conducted a traffic check on a black 2014 Silverado for traffic offenses on Interstate 59. He was aided by deputies from Forrest and Harrison counties.

According to investigators, a K-9 alerted and indicated the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle. During the search, investigators discovered 12 kilograms of cocaine and $20,000 in US currency. They assessed the cocaine’s street value at $2.2 million.

The two suspects, Omar Avellaneeda, 39, and Cortex Servando, 43, were arrested and charged with aggravated trafficking in a prohibited narcotic. They were booked into Lamar County Jail.
