A suburban Chicago man is in custody after striking a pedestrian and fleeing the scene of a crash on the Edens Expressway, according to Illinois State Police.
Damian Lopez, 30, of Beach Park, was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of a personal injury incident (a Class 4 felony) and failure to report a personal injury crash (a Class 2 felony), according to police.
State police said troopers were notified of multiple crashes on Interstate 94 near Church Street in Skokie around 4:47 a.m. on February 1.
Investigators reported that in one of the crashes, a suspect’s vehicle struck a person who was exiting a car. The suspect then left the scene.
According to police, the pedestrian had significant, life-threatening injuries and was sent to a nearby hospital. Further information about their condition has not been released.
Lopez was being held in Cook County Jail until his first court appearance.
Following an investigation, state police identified Lopez as the suspect and arrested him in February. 2.
