Baltimore & Washington Prepare For Near-blizzard Conditions And Extreme Cold This Weekend.

Residents of Baltimore and the surrounding areas are ready for a harsh winter storm, with the National Weather Service predicting near-blizzard conditions and significant wind chills through the weekend. According to the most recent weather forecast, the Alleghenies will receive up to 7 inches of snow, with possible snow squalls and gusting winds limiting visibility and traffic.

Not only is the snow causing alarm, but the bone-chilling cold, caused by an arctic high-pressure system meeting a low offshore, is also raising concerns.

However, a ray of hope emerges on the forecast horizon as temperatures are expected to rise on Monday and throughout the week, increasing the likelihood of mixed precipitation by midweek. Travelers in the sky may face disruptions, with the National Weather Service issuing a statement, “Snow showers are possible across all terminals this afternoon, with little to no accumulation expected,” indicating hazardous conditions for airports and pilots in the Baltimore and Washington areas.

On the water, mariners are urged to take precautions as gale and storm warnings blanket the Chesapeake and Atlantic waters, accompanied by heavy freezing spray warnings, which could lead to hazardous conditions for boats along the coast. Low water levels and blowout tides are also a concern, signaling potential damage to maritime structures along the northern and middle bays, as well as the tidal Potomac.

Local authorities are likely to be on high alert throughout this period, and citizens are asked to be informed about the changing conditions and follow safety advice issued by local law enforcement and weather agencies.
