A Volusia Sheriff’s Office sergeant was taken into custody out of state and pulled from road patrol duties in Central Florida.
According to law enforcement, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office arrested Volusia County Sgt. Steven Edgecomb for driving under the influence after a traffic stop near Breckenridge, Colorado.

He was charged with DUI and weaving out of a traffic lane.
VSO opened an internal affairs inquiry following the arrest, which remains open until the result of the criminal case.
The sergeant’s on-duty driving privileges were suspended, and he was removed of all law enforcement duties, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
“While a member of law enforcement is entitled to the same due process rights as anyone else, we are sharing this arrest because we recognize law enforcement officers must be held to a higher standard than the general public,” VSO stated.
Sgt. Edgecomb was hired in 2006 and has had no previous incidences of this sort.
