Nevada Contractor Sentenced For Defrauding Homeowners

Jon Thomas Banning, a Nevada-licensed contractor and owner of JTB Landscaping, has been sentenced to four to ten years in jail.

Banning was arrested by Nevada Attorney General Investigators in collaboration with the Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB) after the Las Vegas Justice Court issued an outstanding felony arrest warrant.

He was charged with eight felony offenses, including fraud and deceit in commercial dealings and obtaining money, property, rent, or labor under false pretenses.

The charges stemmed from an NSCB investigation into several complaints from homeowners, many of whom were seniors.

The complaints alleged that Banning received tens of thousands of dollars in deposits for landscaping and pool work that he either failed to execute or never began, refusing to return the unearned monies.

The total loss incurred by the victims exceeded $308,000.

The NSCB reported its findings to the Nevada Attorney General’s Office, resulting in a criminal complaint and subsequent arrest warrant.
