A 19-year-old Chicago man was taken into custody in Phoenix, Arizona, over the weekend and charged with attempted first-degree murder after allegedly shooting a man while robbing a Jewel-Osco on the South Side in November.
Chicago police said Elijah Theodore was detained in Phoenix on Friday, extradited to Chicago, and charged.
According to police, Theodore was identified as the person who shot a 46-year-old man who intervened in a robbery at Jewel-Osco on the 400 block of East 34th Street in the Lake Meadows neighborhood on November 11 in the late morning.
Witnesses said the 46-year-old was a security guard. According to authorities, he was shot numerous times in the body and rushed to a local hospital in serious condition, while two women were also injured in the shooting.
People in the store told WGN-TV that customers and employees scrambled for shelter. One shopper claimed she ran behind the meat counter for safety and heard six to eight shots.
