Two people were arrested after officers from the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office discovered an 11-year-old deceased at a Stilesville home on Saturday.
According to the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a home in the 6000 block of West U.S. Highway 40 at 1:30 a.m. to help an unconscious 11-year-old girl. When law enforcement and medics got to the site, they assisted the juvenile. The 11-year-old was declared dead at the scene despite their best efforts.
Deputies detained the girl’s father, 39-year-old Kenneth Vazquez, while investigating the incident. Deputies also arrested Elba Vazquez, the girl’s stepmother, who is 40 years old.
According to the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office investigation report, the Vazquezes live together in Stilesville. The Vazquezes are being jailed in the Hendricks County Jail on the same preliminary charge: neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
Elba Vazquez was booked into jail at about 3:11 p.m. on Saturday. Kenneth Vazquez was booked at 4:43 p.m.
Neglecting a dependent and causing death is a Level 1 felony in Indiana. A Level 1 felony in Indiana has a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
