The suspect in the fatal shooting of a woman inside a University of Illinois Chicago parking garage earlier this month has been discovered dead, according to UIC.
The shooting occurred around 1:35 p.m. on February 3 in the Wood Street Parking Structure at 1100 S. Wood St.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 34-year-old Shawnquanice Kimbrough. Her death was declared a homicide because she received a gunshot wound to the face.
Kimbrough was at UI Health for an appointment with her infant when the shooting occurred. Officials stated that the infant was not physically wounded.
According to UIC, the inquiry led to the location of the suspect. The suspect was discovered dead and had no affiliation with the university.
At the time of the shooting, the university sent alerts regarding police action in the garage and stated that there was no ongoing threat to campus. The northeast section of the garage’s third floor was closed during the inquiry.
Authorities have not revealed the suspect’s identification. It is still unknown what happened before the shooting or how the suspect died.
According to officials, the investigation is now closed.
