Fugitive wanted for Denver murder arrested in Kansas City traffic stop

A man wanted for murder in Denver has been arrested in Kansas City, Kansas, following a traffic stop by multiple agencies.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department reports that the Special Operations Unit and Violent Crimes Task Force, working with the FBI, stopped a car around 12:15 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20.

Law enforcement officers detained Yeanbraiker Yriarte-Valera, 20, on a first-degree murder accusation in Denver during the stop.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Yriarte-Valera was a passenger in the vehicle when the stop occurred.

Troopers said they staged nearby, ready to use a grappler device if the driver escaped—but the driver stopped without incident.

Yriarte-Valera is currently being held at Wyandotte County Jail on both the Denver murder charge and a separate Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention.
