A Canton woman is facing charges after allegedly punching an officer in the face and then destroying a holding cell window at the Stark County Jail.
On February 16, police responded to a domestic disturbance incident on 3rd Street SW in Canton.
Police said Jade Cain and her boyfriend, Alan King, had previously caused disturbances at the address.
When officers arrived, body camera footage showed King’s mother outside on the sidewalk, where she began filling them in on the couple’s ongoing troubles.
According to police, that’s when Cain and King exited the house. Cain began arguing with his family almost immediately, according to the story.
Officers reported that Cain appeared to be under the influence of something and could not stop talking. According to the report, one officer chose to detain her in a patrol cruiser to move the inquiry forward.
That’s where things became physical. Cain collapsed and fell to the ground as he was being led to the cruiser.
Cain sat down briefly on the cruiser, and body camera footage shows her requesting a shoe.
According to police, she then swung her left hand and struck the officer in the face with her fist. The video shows the cop slamming the door shut.
Another officer arrives shortly after and speaks with the family before transporting Cain to the Stark County Jail.
According to police, Cain was placed in a holding area inside the jail. Police said she continually kicked and bashed her head against the door.
At some point, she pulled her left hand out of the handcuffs and began banging them against the jail door pane, cracking and shattering the glass.
Cain was accused of assaulting a peace officer and vandalism.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for February 24.
