A group home and daycare employee was apprehended for child abuse in Central Florida.
Detectives from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office’s Crimes Against Children Unit recently arrested a group home and daycare employee on charges of child abuse.
According to detectives, deputies responded to a child abuse incident at a Largo group home when the victim’s father saw many injuries to his nonverbal autistic child during pickup in December 2025. According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was 10 years old.
During the investigation, investigators studied surveillance footage from the group home, which showed 38-year-old Shannon Cooper of Clearwater repeatedly assaulting the victim, according to law authorities. She was spotted hauling the victim about by their collar, punching the victim unprovoked many times, straddling the victim and putting her weight on them, shoving the victim into furniture, and carrying the victim into rooms known to be camera-free, according to the PCSO.
According to local law authorities, the victim sustained bruising on their neck, right arm, and left arm, as well as scratches on their face and hands.
Cooper was arrested last month and accused with child abuse. She was brought to the Pinellas County Jail. PCSO also reported that she was employed in St. Petersburg.
The inquiry is ongoing, according to local law enforcement.
