A man was apprehended in Ohio in connection with last week’s triple shooting in West Virginia, which killed a beloved basketball coach and a city worker.
The Huntington Police Department announced on Facebook on Sunday that Kevante White of Akron had been apprehended by US Marshals in Stark County, Ohio. The 27-year-old man faces two counts of first-degree murder and one count of malicious wounding, according to police.

Adrian Phillips and Derious Johnson were killed on February 20 in Huntington, according to police. According to authorities, the third shooting victim was last listed in stable condition. They have not been identified.
Johnson was a middle school basketball coach at St. Joseph Catholic School in Huntington, while Phillips worked for Huntington’s Public Works Department in the Street Division. Adrian and Derious were brothers, Huntington Mayor Patrick J. Farrell stated in a Facebook post last week. “This tragedy has devastated a family and shaken our community.”
Huntington police said White traveled to Akron following the shooting, leading officials to seek assistance from the US Marshals Service. The 27-year-old man is being held in a Stark County correctional facility as a fugitive. He is awaiting extradition to West Virginia.
