U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers found 944 pounds of liquid methamphetamine concealed inside the fuel tank of a 2019 Kenworth T680 commercial tractor-trailer at the Otay Mesa Import Cargo Facility on Monday.
U.S. authorities apprehended the driver, Oscar Alonzo Cesena Camacho, a Mexican citizen on a business visa, and charged him with controlled narcotic importation.
According to a complaint, a CBP officer observed a white, crystalline substance on the passenger-side fuel tank.
According to the US Attorney’s Office, further inspection of the car revealed 29 buckets of liquid concealed in the vehicle’s passenger-side fuel tank, totaling about 428.60 kilograms (944.90 pounds).
