Eight people have been taken into custody in northern Arizona in connection with a train burglary involving “high-dollar sports shoes,” according to the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office and Homeland Security Investigations traveled to Jackrabbit, near Joseph City, on Monday to investigate a possible train burglary on a BNSF freight train.
Authorities witnessed the suspects taking expensive sports shoes from boxcars and loading them into a U-Haul truck.
Authorities reported that when officers arrived, the suspects fled the site.
Law enforcement used spike strips to stop the suspects’ car, but those inside fled the scene.
After conducting thorough searches, investigators were able to locate and apprehend eight suspects. The U-Haul trailer containing the stolen merchandise was also recovered and returned to BNSF.
According to the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office, the arrested accused are undocumented aliens.
