Two people were sentenced to serve 10 years on one count of grand larceny, Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced Wednesday.
According to police, Byron Gage Tatum, 26, and Chesney Lynn Stanley, 23, took over $20,000 from an elderly victim.
Tatum and Stanley were each sentenced to 10 years in Mississippi Department of Corrections custody.
Their sentences will include one year in prison, five years of supervised release, and four years of unsupervised probation, officials said.
Tatum and Stanley were also ordered to pay $18,570.40 in restitution and $500 to the Crime Victim Compensation Fund.
“Preying on senior citizens, who need and deserve our extra care and protection, will not be tolerated,” said Fitch in a statement. “I am proud of the diligent work of our investigators and prosecutors who ensured that justice was served in this case.”
