Central Florida Traffic Stop Led to Apprehension of Illegal Aliens Linked to Burglary

A Central Florida traffic stop led to the apprehension of three illegal aliens linked to a residential burglary.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residential burglary on West Kenyon Avenue near Tampa when the homeowners returned home and reported the break-in. The sliding glass door was damaged, and the house had been looted. A personal safe, jewels, and firearms worth around $137,000 were found to have been stolen.

Later that day, deputies received a second allegation of a residential burglary on Osage Drive in Town ‘N’ Country, which was located about five miles away. Video surveillance from the crimes identified the vehicle suspected of being involved in both burglaries.

A few days later, deputies discovered the vehicle heading southbound on Interstate 75 at the Sun City Center Boulevard exit and performed a traffic stop, arresting three illegal aliens.

The driver, Juan Gabriel Caicedo Chasoy, 39, was arrested for not having a valid driver’s license. Further inquiry found that he has a final order of deportation, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued a detainer against him.

His passenger, 33-year-old Jhon Alex Riasco Vergara, submitted a driver’s license bearing a phony name and birth date. He was arrested and charged with two counts of fugitive warrants, two counts of unauthorized use or possession of a fraudulent ID card, providing false information to a law enforcement officer, and displaying a fraudulent ID card. He also received an ICE detainer.

Detectives established that Riasco Vergara was responsible for the burglary in Hillsborough County days before. He has since been charged locally with armed burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and grand theft over $100,000.

The third passenger, 35-year-old Louis Ramon Monseque, presented fake identification credentials. Detectives later confirmed his true identity and identified many active felony warrants in Texas for residential burglaries, as well as warrants in Washington for burglary, kidnapping, and criminal mischief.

Monseque was charged with providing a false name to a law enforcement officer and possessing cannabis less than 20 grams. Monseque also has a final deportation order, and ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) has issued a detainer on him.

All three males are nationals of the Republic of Colombia.

Caicedo Chasoy and Monseque were released to ICE, but Riasco Vergara remained in jail pending various criminal charges and an ICE detainer, all in accordance with federal law Section 287(g), according to a recent law enforcement update.

“This case demonstrates how our deputies enforce the law and follow established procedures to hold offenders accountable,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Our deputies identified and charged one suspect responsible for a major residential burglary here in Hillsborough County. All three individuals were held on ICE detainers, and two have since been released to ICE to ensure they cannot return to our streets.

Local law enforcement officials say the inquiry is still ongoing.
