A trial date was set on Tuesday in the case of two Canton officers charged with Frank Tyson’s murder in police custody in April 2024.
Officers Beau Schoenegge and Camden Burch are now slated to stand trial on August 10.
Both cops were indicted for reckless homicide.
Marion County Prosecutor Ray Grogan was granted authority over their case in December 2025.
Visiting Judge James Kimbler presides over the court proceedings.
According to the Stark County prosecutor, Tyson, 53, went into a local AMVETS club in the 1700 block of Sherrick Rd. SE and requested that someone call the sheriff.
Instead, Canton police were dispatched to the area, and when they arrived, there was a fight inside the bar.
Tyson told officers that he couldn’t breathe after they brought him to the ground and shackled him while he lay on his stomach.
According to his family, Tyson tells officers he can’t breathe at least seven times in one minute, as captured on police body cameras.
A Canton police officer was kneeling on his back at the time.
Tyson was transferred to a local hospital where he died while still in handcuffs.
