A Michigan man drove from Grand Blanc, Michigan, to Ohio and picked up a 15-year-old girl reported missing from her home, then brought her back across state lines to a hotel in Fenton, according to the FBI.
Chason William-Gregory Pointer, 42, is in jail after being accused of transporting a minor in the early morning hours of April 2, 2026, with the aim that she engage in unlawful sexual behavior with him. The federal complaint also accuses Pointer of compulsion and inducement, stemming from online chats that began on Reddit and later moved to Snapchat.
On April 4, 2026, Reddit Inc. alerted the FBI to a communication that it believed included a missing Ohio kid, according to the FBI. The chat between the two users lasted from March 30 to April 3. It purportedly included allegations that one user, Pointer, had driven to see the other for sex and returned the next day, as well as intentions to meet at a hotel.
According to the complaint, the juvenile claimed to be 18, supplied images that Reddit believed resembled the missing youngster shown in recent news coverage, and stated that they lived in Ohio. The conversation then appeared to change to Snapchat, with the purported juvenile providing a different username.
Investigators then connected an IP address associated with the other account to a Comcast subscriber named Pointer, whose listed residence was in Grand Blanc. Additional emergency requests connected a phone number to the same online identity, and further searches traced the number to Pointer. According to documents from the Michigan Secretary of State, Pointer was born in 1984 and lived in Grand Blanc.
The minor was 15 years old when she vanished, according to a Sylvania Police Department detective in Ohio. The investigator requested emergency Snapchat records for the juvenile’s account and discovered a conversation between the minor and Pointer from March 31 to April 3 that “appeared to be sexually exploitive in nature.”
The detective also received Snapchat subscriber records for Pointer’s account, and the previously associated IP address appeared seven times in the list of authentication operations.
Federal authorities then studied Pointer’s call history, determining that the phone’s location data indicated overnight transit south into Toledo. On April 3, after midnight, the phone moved from Grand Blanc to Toledo around 2:30 a.m., near the victim’s address, and then back to Michigan, arriving in Fenton after 4:00 a.m. According to hotel staff, the phone was registered to Room 215. When the FBI and the City of Fenton Police Department entered the room and knocked, they reported seeing Pointer and the missing adolescent going down the hallway together and stopping them right there.
Throughout the encounter, agents removed Pointer from the teen and began patting him down. Investigators found a knife and a cellphone in Pointer’s right pocket. According to the FBI, Pointer was seated on a second-floor corridor bench and informed that he was not under arrest or shackled while being questioned.
According to court filings, Pointer told an FBI agent and a Fenton Police sergeant that he and the adolescent had met online in a Reddit discussion forum and that they had gone to Buffalo Wild Wings. Pointer stated the kid was looking for “a sugar daddy” and that he traveled from Grand Blanc to Toledo, picked her up, and then proceeded to the motel in Fenton, stopping only at Walmart. He claimed to be driving a Nissan.
He claimed he thought the girl was 18 and denied knowing she was 15, but when asked how many times he and the victim had sexual contact, Pointer begged for a lawyer, according to the feds. Pointer reportedly refused to enable searches of his hotel room, automobile, and cellphone.
On April 6, Pointer appeared in federal court in Bay City for his initial appearance and was temporarily jailed. He has a detention hearing scheduled on April 10 at 1:00 p.m., according to records. Pointer was arrested in Oakland County for assault and battery in 2019.
