A deadly shooting at a Chick-fil-A in New Jersey killed one person and injured six others, with investigators saying the violence was targeted and the culprits still at large.
According to the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, police arrived at the eatery on Route 22 in Union approximately 9 p.m. on Saturday and discovered seven victims.
The restaurant is located on Route 22, a significant commercial route in Union County.
One victim died, while the remaining six received non-life-threatening injuries. While no arrests have been made at this time, the early investigation indicates that the incident was not a random act of violence and that there is no imminent ongoing threat to the general public, according to the Union County Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigation is still active and ongoing, as officials try to identify individuals involved.
Dashcam footage circulating online claims to show a person departing the scene with a pistol in hand.
A man who claims his girlfriend works at the restaurant told CBS New York that she saw a gang of males enter the store, move behind the counter, and fire multiple bullets.
Authorities remained on the site late Saturday, with officers and employees seen inside the restaurant and more officers patrolling the parking area.
Officials say the act appears premeditated, but investigators have not disclosed details about the likely motive or suspects. Authorities have not stated if the victims were targeted personally or had any relationship with the perpetrators.
New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill stated that she has been briefed about the shooting.
