A student at Riverside High School was arrested Friday after being found with a firearm inside the school, according to authorities.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the situation began around 1:55 p.m. when school administrators and a school resource officer were notified that a student within the building had posted a threatening image on social media.
Officials quickly put the school on lockdown and notified deputies. Authorities said the student believed to be posting the image was found in a classroom and arrested. During a search, authorities discovered the student in possession of a handgun.
No students or staff were wounded, and the lockdown lasted around 20 minutes before being lifted.
In a note to families, school officials stated that the student attends afternoon classes and underscored that safety is the district’s first priority. They also stated that law enforcement will have a greater presence on campus following the incident.
The investigation is underway.
