Man Who Skipped 2013 Court Date Detained At Okahumpka Service Plaza

A Lake Butler man was detained at the Okahumpka Service Plaza on a 2013 Marion County warrant for failure to appear.

An officer noticed a red Jeep Compass parked just east of the gas pumps at the Okahumpka Service Plaza, situated at 299 SR 91, about 6 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. A check revealed that the registered owner, 35-year-old Pedro Hernandez-Flores, had an ongoing Marion County warrant from 2013 for failing to appear (change of plea for no valid driver’s license).

As the officer established that the warrant was still valid, the vehicle began driving around the service plaza. He began a traffic stop around Mile Marker 299, and the vehicle came to a stop at one of the gas pumps. He then approached the driver’s side of the vehicle and chatted with Hernandez-Flores, according to the report.

When the officer questioned if he was the registered owner, Hernandez-Flores said yes. He was handcuffed after being verified to match the photo on his driver’s license.

Hernandez-Flores was subsequently transferred to Sumter County Detention Center, where Marion County issued a hold on him.
