New York State Man Banned from Walmart Allegedly Steals

Police say a man from New York state, who had already been banned from a large retail chain, stole hundreds of dollars in products from the same company. Officials say the suspect walked out of the store with a cart full of things on consecutive days. The suspect is facing a third-degree criminal burglary accusation.

According to Stephen A. Bilkis & Associates’ website, third-degree burglary in New York is a Class D felony punishable by up to seven years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

New York State Man Banned From Walmart Allegedly Steals From Walmart

According to a news statement from New York State Police, a 38-year-old Cortland man was arrested on May 18 for burglary in the third degree, a class “D” felony.

On May 11, 2025, troopers were summoned to Walmart in Cortlandville for a report of a male who walked away with a cart full of things totaling more than $868 without paying for any of them.

Police said they recognized the offender, who had previously been “trespassed,” or barred from entering Walmart, earlier this year owing to past thefts.

However, troopers claim they received another summons to Walmart the following day. Officials claim the same guy was seen going away with a cartload of things worth more than $678 without paying for them.

Troopers said they couldn’t find the man and requested an arrest warrant. On May 18, troopers say the defendant was apprehended by another police agency and then turned over to New York State Police in Homer to satisfy the warrant.

They processed the defendant and transferred him to the county jail for arraignment.
