A Prince George’s County man was detained after an alleged road rage incident with a gun, according to state officials.
On August 13, 2025, at about 4:20 p.m., a driver called Maryland State Police (MSP) to report that another driver had pointed a gun at them while driving on Interstate 495’s inner circle near Annapolis Road.
The investigation was handled by MSP’s Highway Gun Crimes Initiative team, which identified the culprit as Stephen Eric Scroggins, 52, of Temple Hills.
Troopers pulled over Scroggins in a white Nissan Titan during a traffic encounter and executed a search warrant. A loaded pistol was discovered in the vehicle, and he was detained without incident.
Scroggins was charged with first- and second-degree assault, as well as using a firearm to commit a felony. He was taken to Prince George’s County Division of Corrections and freed after posting a $2,500 bail.
