A 34-year-old Wisconsin man was arrested for allegedly stealing a vehicle with the victim’s dog inside.
According to the Superior Police Department, police were dispatched shortly before 12:45 a.m. to the Regina Hill Apartments on East 5th Street for a report of a stolen car.
A caller, who witnessed the crime and contacted 911, was tracking the stolen vehicle, a blue Ford Expedition. Superior Police, along with officers from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, positioned themselves near the Blatnik Bridge in anticipation of the suspect’s route.
Tire deflation devices were successfully deployed, and the SUV was pursued across the bridge to Duluth. When the car stopped close to the Garfield Avenue exit, the driver took off running. After a brief chase into the brush, the culprit surrendered and was apprehended.
Officers discovered the victim’s dog inside the SUV and securely returned it to the owner.
The suspect, a 34-year-old Superior man, was detained on suspicion of using a car without the owner’s permission and theft. He was brought to Douglas County Jail.
