A stolen truck and illegal drugs were found early Sunday morning in Angola, prompting the arrest of two people on multiple charges.
According to Indiana State Police, the Angola Police Department responded at 2 a.m. Sunday to a complaint of a stolen truck seen on North Wayne Street. Officers found the vehicle in a parking lot at a Shell gas station near North Wayne Street and Harcourt Street. Police detained both the driver and the passenger at the scene.
Authorities reported that the driver first provided incorrect identifying information. An Indiana State Police K-9 alerted officers to potential illegal substances inside the vehicle. During a probable cause search, suspected marijuana was discovered in the stolen truck. Police say the passenger was also carrying suspected methamphetamine.
The driver was identified as Stephen Dunn, 45, of Silver Springs, Florida, and the passenger as Danni Nickols, 32, of Ashley, Indiana. Both were detained on several offenses. Dunn is facing felony charges for auto theft and identity deceit, as well as misdemeanors for drug possession and false reporting. Police also confirmed that Dunn had an open fugitive warrant from Florida. Nickols is charged with methamphetamine possession, marijuana possession, and possession of paraphernalia.
According to Indiana State Police, the arrests demonstrate the need for collaboration between local and state agencies. The Angola Police Department, its dispatch, and First Call Towing all aided with the event.
